Punxsutawney, PA | As is the local custom every four years, Punxsutawney Phil made his prediction yesterday about the next winner of the US presidential campaign.
The famous rodent, which is mostly known for his predictions about the length of winter and the arrival of spring each year, is at his third prediction about the winning candidate of the US presidential elections, his choice falling on Obama in 2008 and 2012.
The news has galvanized organizers of the Jeb Bush campaign who believe this could be a game changer in the dwindling presidential candidate’s run.
“We haven’t had much momentum in the campaign yet, but this could be exactly what we needed” explains campaign organizer and volunteer, Suzy Hastings. “Not to say that a groundhog is going to make Jeb Bush president, but it’s the kind of cheerful publicity we will gladly take,” she acknowledges.
“Statistics don’t lie”
If the custom may seem absurd to most people, some experts believe, however, that the choice of the groundhog could prove to be the good one, explains statistician and researcher at the Department of Statistics at the Pennsylvania State University, PhD. John McLoud.
“Here we truly have a small rodent that defies all the laws of probability,” he says, visibly amused by the situation. “Punxsutawney Phil surprises us every year by his correct predictions on the arrival of spring for the past 12 years, as well as his two previous predictions about the US presidential campaign in 2008 and 2012, giving him an accuracy rate of 99.99%, which ensures an almost inevitable victory for Jeb Bush,” he says with a grin.
If Jeb Bush wins the 2016 presidential campaign, it would be Punxsutawney Phil’s third successful prediction about the presidential winners in the past 12 years, an amazing accuracy rate confirm specialists.
